Why is L'AMERICAIN XXL POULET OEUF classified as ultra‑processed (NOVA 4) and which additives does it contain?

The sandwich includes refined flours, added oils, mayonnaise and multiple food‑industry ingredients such as emulsifiers, preservatives and flavor enhancers, which place it in the ultra‑processed NOVA 4 category. Its label lists additives including mono‑ and diglycerides of fatty acids (E471), potassium metabisulfite (E224), ascorbic acid (E300), sodium erythorbate (E316), citric acid (E330), diphosphates (E451), xanthan gum (E415), guar gum (E412) and other unnamed additives (E14xx, E261, E326).

How does the sugar and salt content of this sandwich impact people with diabetes or hypertension?

With 3.1 g of sugars per 100 g, the sandwich is low in sugar and can fit within a diabetes‑friendly carbohydrate budget, but portion control is still important. It contains 1.1 g of salt per 100 g, which is a moderate amount; for those managing hypertension, the product contributes to daily sodium intake and should be balanced with lower‑salt meals elsewhere in the day.

Is the egg yolk in this sandwich a problem for consumers with egg allergy, and are there other allergens to consider?

Yes, the mayonnaise includes egg yolk, so the sandwich is not suitable for anyone allergic to eggs. It also contains wheat gluten from the bread and mustard in the mayonnaise, making it unsuitable for individuals with gluten or mustard sensitivities.
