Why is BUITONI FRAICH'UP Chicken Barbecue frozen pizza classified as ultra‑processed (NOVA 4) and what specific additives does it contain?

The pizza is deemed ultra‑processed because it combines many industrial ingredients such as refined wheat flour, added sugars, multiple oils, and a complex barbecue sauce, and it includes several food additives: caramel colour (E150a), sodium bicarbonate (E500ii), raising agents, smoke flavouring, spice extracts, and flavour enhancers, all of which are typical of NOVA 4 products.

How does the sugar and salt content in this pizza affect a diabetic or hypertensive diet?

With 2.4 g of sugars per 100 g, the pizza is lower in sugar than many frozen pizzas, making it a moderate choice for diabetes when portion sizes are controlled; its 0.74 g of salt per 100 g is also below the average for frozen pizzas, which helps limit sodium intake for hypertension, though the total contribution still depends on the amount consumed.

Is the wheat flour in this pizza a concern for people with gluten intolerance?

Yes, the product contains wheat flour and added wheat gluten, both of which are sources of gluten, so it is not suitable for individuals with celiac disease or gluten sensitivity.
