Why is Galaxy drinking chocolate classified as ultra‑processed (NOVA 4) and what specific additives does it contain?

The product mixes refined ingredients such as whey permeate, sugar, maltodextrin, and cocoa powder with several processing aids. It includes nine additives: emulsifier E322 (lecithin), emulsifier E471, anti‑caking agent E551, sweetener E955, stabilisers E412, E466, E340, E339, and E4521. The presence of these additives and multiple industrial steps places it in the ultra‑processed NOVA 4 category.

How does the sugar and salt content in Galaxy drinking chocolate affect a diabetic or hypertensive diet?

With about 26.8 g of added sugars per 100 g, the drink can cause rapid blood‑glucose spikes, making it unsuitable for strict diabetic control unless portioned carefully. The 1.2 g of salt exceeds the typical average for this product class and may contribute to elevated blood pressure, so hypertensive individuals should limit consumption.

Is the whey permeate in Galaxy drinking chocolate a concern for people with milk allergies?

Yes. Whey permeate is derived from milk and is listed as an allergen. The product also contains lactose, skimmed milk powder, and milk chocolate, all of which contain milk proteins, so anyone with a milk allergy should avoid it.
