Why is the Tropical Cocktail dried fruit mix classified as ultra-processed (NOVA 4) and what specific additives does it contain?

It is labeled NOVA 4 because the fruits are dried, glazed with vegetable oils and coated with a sulphur dioxide preservative; the formulation also includes a glazing agent made of mixed vegetable oils (rapeseed, cottonseed, sunflower) and citric acid as an acidifier, which are typical ingredients of ultra-processed foods.

How does the high sugar and saturated fat content in this dried fruit mix affect people with diabetes or cardiovascular concerns?

The 45.5 g of sugar per 100 g can cause rapid blood‑glucose spikes, making it unsuitable for strict diabetic diets, while the 5.1 g of saturated fat contributes to LDL cholesterol levels, which may be problematic for those managing heart disease; moderation is advised.

Are the almonds and sulphite preservative in this product a risk for nut‑allergic or sulphite‑sensitive individuals?

Yes, the mix contains 7 % almonds and uses sulphur dioxide as a preservative, so it must be avoided by anyone allergic to tree nuts or intolerant to sulphites, and the label also notes possible traces of other nuts, peanuts, gluten, sesame and soy.
