Why is Proactiv Light classified as ultra‑processed (NOVA 4) and what specific additives does it contain?

It is labelled NOVA 4 because its formulation relies on refined vegetable oils, added plant sterol esters, emulsifier lecithin (E322i) and natural flavourings, all of which are industrially processed ingredients; these components move the product into the ultra‑processed category.

How does the salt content in Proactiv Light affect a diabetic or hypertensive diet?

With 2 g of salt per 100 g – roughly five times the average spread – the product can raise blood pressure and increase cardiovascular risk, which is especially concerning for hypertensive individuals; while salt does not directly raise blood glucose, diabetics who need to manage heart health should limit its intake.

Based on its ingredients, is Proactiv Light suitable for strict diets such as vegan, keto, halal or gluten‑free?

The spread is fully plant‑based and contains no animal ingredients or gluten, making it vegan and gluten‑free; its very low carbohydrate (0.5 g sugars) and high‑fat profile also fit a keto regimen, while the use of refined vegetable oils and lecithin is generally acceptable in halal diets, although official certification is not indicated.

Product Insights

Proactiv Light is a plant‑based spread that belongs to the Fat and sauces (Fats) category, made from water, rapeseed, sunflower and linseed oils, coconut fat, plant sterol esters, salt, lecithin, natural flavours and added vitamins A and D. It carries a Nutri‑Score of D and falls into the ultra‑processed NOVA 4 group, reflecting its high salt (2 g per 100 g) and saturated‑fat content while offering low sugars (0.5 g per 100 g) and a 9 % plant‑sterol blend aimed at lowering cholesterol. The spread is vegan and omega‑3‑rich, but the elevated sodium and saturated fat, together with the presence of an emulsifier, make it less suitable for low‑salt or low‑saturated‑fat diets.
