Why is Nido classified as ultra‑processed (NOVA 4) and what specific additives does it contain?

Nido undergoes extensive processing to convert fresh skimmed cow's milk into a stable powdered form, adding vitamins, minerals, emulsifiers and flavorings, which places it in the ultra‑processed NOVA 4 category. The formula includes additives such as E304 (ascorbyl palmitate), E304i (ascorbyl palmitate variant), E306 (tocopherol‑rich extracts), and lecithin blends E322 and E322i (soy lecithin).

How does the high sugar and fat content of Nido affect people with diabetes or high blood pressure?

The product's 41.7 g of sugar per 100 g can cause rapid blood‑glucose spikes, making it unsuitable for strict diabetic diets unless portion‑controlled. Its elevated saturated fat (13.9 g/100 g) may raise LDL cholesterol, while the salt content (0.63 g/100 g) is below average but still contributes to sodium intake, so hypertensive individuals should consume it sparingly and consider lower‑sugar alternatives.

Is the soy ingredient in Nido a concern for individuals with soy allergy?

Yes. Nido contains soy‑derived components such as soy oil and soy lecithin, both of which are recognized allergens. Anyone with a soy allergy should avoid this product or consult a healthcare professional before consumption.
