Why is Loyd Pineapple & Pear Fruit Tea classified as ultra-processed (NOVA 4) and what specific additives does it contain?

The tea is considered ultra-processed because it includes refined flavorings, an acidity regulator (malic acid), liquorice root, cloves and other processed botanical extracts, all of which are added during manufacturing rather than being whole natural ingredients.

How does the presence of liquorice and the hypertension warning affect people with high blood pressure?

Liquorice contains glycyrrhizin, which can raise blood pressure, so individuals with hypertension are advised to limit consumption of this tea despite the low sugar content.

Is this fruit tea suitable for vegans and vegetarians?

All listed ingredients are plant‑based, making the tea suitable for vegetarians and likely for vegans, although the exact origin of the flavorings is not disclosed, so vegan status cannot be guaranteed.

Product Insights

Loyd Pineapple & Pear Fruit Tea is an unsweetened beverage made from apple, rosehip, pineapple and pear flavorings, cinnamon, chicory root and a small amount of liquorice root. The product falls in the Unsweetened beverages group, carries a NOVA 4 classification for being ultra-processed, and its nutritional label shows no added sugars but limited fruit content (about 1% of the blend). While it provides a caffeine‑free, low‑calorie tea option, the inclusion of liquorice and a hypertension warning may be a drawback for consumers with high blood pressure.

Comparative Analysis

Compared with the average beverage, which contains about 15.5 g of sugar per 100 g, this tea has no added sugars and a much lower overall sugar level, while contributing negligible fat, salt and calories.
