Why is Barre de Céréales Pomme Saveur Fraise classified as ultra‑processed (NOVA 4) and what specific additives does it contain?

The product is labelled NOVA 4 because its formulation relies heavily on refined grains, added sugars, stabilisers and several industrial ingredients. It contains additives such as polydextrose (E1200) as a bulking agent, sulphur dioxide/sulphites (E220) as a preservative, malic acid (E296) for acidity control, tocopherol‑rich extract (E306) as an antioxidant, lecithin (E322/E322i) as an emulsifier, sorbitol (E420) as a stabiliser, and glycerol (E422) as a humectant.

How does the sugar and salt content in this bar affect a diabetic or hypertensive diet?

With 21 g of sugars per 100 g, the bar contributes a substantial portion of the daily carbohydrate limit for people with diabetes, potentially raising blood glucose levels if consumed in large amounts. The 0.41 g of salt (approximately 160 mg of sodium) is moderate but can add up when combined with other salty foods, so individuals monitoring blood pressure should keep overall daily salt intake low.

Based on the ingredients, is this product suitable for strict diets like vegan, keto, halal, or gluten‑free?

The bar is not vegan because it contains skimmed milk powder and fermented milk powder. It is not gluten‑free due to wheat, wheat gluten and oat flakes. It is not keto‑friendly because carbohydrates total 76 g per 100 g, far exceeding typical keto limits. While the palm‑kernel fat may be permissible in many halal diets, the presence of dairy and possible cross‑contamination with non‑halal processing means the product cannot be confirmed halal without certification.
