Why is Mini Choko Softies classified as ultra‑processed (NOVA 4) and what specific additives does it contain?

The snack combines refined glucose‑fructose syrup, multiple types of chocolate, a wafer, and several food‑grade compounds, which classifies it as ultra‑processed. Its additive list includes lecithin (E322), sorbitol (E420) as a humectant, polyglycerin‑polyricinoleate (E476) and sodium carbonate (E500) used as a raising agent.

How does the sugar and saturated‑fat content in Mini Choko Softies affect a diabetic or cardiovascular diet?

With 51.6 g of sugar and 9 g of saturated fat per 100 g, the product can cause rapid blood‑glucose spikes and increase LDL cholesterol, making it unsuitable for people managing diabetes or heart‑related conditions.

Is the palm oil used in Mini Choko Softies a concern for environmental sustainability?

Yes. Palm oil, present in the wafer layer (about 1 % of the product), is linked to deforestation and habitat loss for threatened species, which undermines the otherwise sustainable cocoa certifications.
