Is Total 12HR Pro-Guard Spearmint Burst safe for people with sensitive mouths or oral irritation?

The mouthwash is generally well tolerated, but the alcohol and cetylpyridinium chloride can cause a brief sting in sensitive oral tissues, so users prone to irritation should consider an alcohol-free alternative.

What role does cetylpyridinium chloride play in this mouthwash?

Cetylpyridinium chloride is an antimicrobial agent that reduces plaque formation and gingivitis by disrupting bacterial cell membranes, providing the 12-hour antibacterial effect.

How often should this mouthwash be used and does it contain any controversial ingredients?

For optimal benefit, swish the rinse twice daily after brushing for 30 seconds, and note that the formula contains alcohol and a preservative, which some consumers avoid due to concerns about irritation and potential health effects.
