Why is Protein+ Auchan classified as ultra‑processed (NOVA 4) and what specific additives does it contain?

The product is made from refined skimmed milk concentrate, cocoa powder, carrageenan as a stabiliser (E 407) and sucralose as an artificial sweetener (E 955), plus flavourings, which together qualify it as an ultra‑processed food under the NOVA system.

How does the sugar and salt content in this protein drink affect a diabetic or hypertensive diet?

With 5.1 g of sugars per 100 g, the drink contributes a moderate amount of carbohydrates that can raise blood glucose levels, so diabetics should monitor portions; the very low salt (0.14 g) is unlikely to impact blood pressure for most hypertensive individuals.

Is this protein drink suitable for gluten‑free, vegan, or ketogenic diets?

It is gluten‑free, but it contains dairy milk, so it is not vegan or suitable for a strict keto diet due to its carbohydrate content from sugars and milk solids.

Product Insights

Protein+ Auchan is a 350 g milk‑based protein beverage marketed as a dietary supplement for bodybuilding, certified gluten‑free and sold at Auchan and Alcampo in Spain. It belongs to the dairy beverage group in the PNNS classification, delivers 11 g of protein, 0.5 g of fat (0.2 g saturated), 5.1 g of sugars and 0.14 g of salt per 100 g, and carries a non‑applicable Nutri‑Score with a NOVA 4 ultra‑processed rating. The low fat, saturated fat and salt levels are positive, but the moderate sugar, presence of carrageenan (E 407) and sucralose (E 955) additives, and its milk allergen make it less suitable for those avoiding additives or dairy.
