Is Milk Nutritiva suitable for vegan, halal or gluten-free diets?

The product is certified Halal, but it contains dairy milk and almond oil, so it is not vegan. No gluten-containing grains are listed, so it can be considered gluten-free for most consumers, although cross-contamination cannot be ruled out.

Does the almond oil in Milk Nutritiva pose a risk for people with nut allergies?

Almond oil (Prunus amygdalus dulcis oil) is derived from tree nuts, and it can trigger allergic reactions in individuals sensitive to nuts. Consumers with nut allergies should avoid this beverage or consult a medical professional before consumption.

Q: Why is Milk Nutritiva classified as ultra-processed (NOVA 4) and what specific additives does it contain?

Milk Nutritiva is labeled NOVA 4 because its ingredient list goes beyond basic milk components and includes many industrial additives such as mineral oil (Paraffinum Liquidum), glycerin, isododecane, isopropyl palmitate, microcrystalline wax, PEG-40 Sorbitan Perisostearate, Polyglyceryl-3 Di-isostearate, magnesium sulfate, citric acid, sodium citrate-potassium sorbate, and a fragrance blend that contains linalool, limonene, geraniol, benzyl alcohol, citronellol and butylphenyl methylpropional. These substances are typical of highly processed food products.

Product Insights

Milk Nutritiva is a ready-to-drink fortified milk beverage marketed by Nivea (Beiersdorf) in Chile and carries a Halal certification. The formula includes water, almond oil, glycerin, magnesium sulfate and a range of synthetic emulsifiers, mineral oil, and fragrance agents, giving a smooth texture but also a highly processed character. Because of the extensive additive list, including PEG-40 Sorbitan Perisostearate, Polyglyceryl-3 Di-isostearate, linalool, limonene, geraniol, benzyl alcohol, citronellol and other fragrance compounds, the product is classified as ultra-processed (NOVA 4) and may not meet the expectations of consumers seeking a simple natural dairy drink.

Comparative Analysis

Compared with standard fresh milk, Milk Nutritiva contains a much higher proportion of synthetic emulsifiers and fragrance chemicals, making it a more processed alternative rather than a natural dairy source.
