Is the Kit Racines Noir R5 safe for sensitive scalps or chemically treated hair?

The product is formulated for normal to dry hair but contains ammonia, resorcinol and other strong alkalizing agents, which can irritate sensitive or already chemically-treated scalps; a 48-hour patch test is strongly recommended before full application.

What function does Toluene-2,5-Diamine Sulfate serve in this hair dye?

Toluene-2,5-Diamine Sulfate is a primary aromatic amine that acts as a color precursor; when oxidized by the peroxide developer it forms the black pigment that bonds to the hair cuticle.

How should the kit be used and are there any controversial chemicals I should be aware of?

Apply the color cream to dry, pre-sectioned roots, wait the specified development time (typically 30-45 minutes), then rinse and follow with the developer in a separate step; the formula contains ammonia, resorcinol, 4-Chlororesorcinol and other synthetic additives, which are considered controversial by some consumers.

Product Insights

The Kit Racines Noir R5 is a two-part professional hair-color system designed to deposit a deep black (R5) shade on roots and gray hair. Its formula relies on an ammonia-based cream containing color precursors such as Toluene-2,5-Diamine Sulfate, Resorcinol and m-Aminophenol, combined with a peroxide developer that activates the pigments, and includes conditioning agents like Cetearyl Alcohol, Paraffinum Liquidum and Xanthan Gum. Because it belongs to the ultra-processed NOVA-4 class, the kit contains several potential irritants (ammonium hydroxide, resorcinol, 4-Chlororesorcinol) and a long list of synthetic additives, so users with sensitive scalps should perform a patch test before full application.

Comparative Analysis

Unlike simple single-step dyes, this kit offers a dedicated developer and a high-concentration ammonia-based color cream, positioning it as a professional-grade root-touch-up solution for achieving an intense black shade.
